I'm a proud juried member of Art for Critters, Artists United to Help Animals in Need. Art for Critters connects wildlife and animal artists with the Rescues and Organizations that provide sanctuary and aid to animals across the globe. I donate a percentage of my profits on certain paintings monthly to one of the charities. For more information and to meet the other wonderful artists involved go to http://www.artforcritters.net/mission.htm In 2006 I became a juried member of a online community of self representing artists called EBSQ. Juried members are peer juried as one of the best all-around artist at EBSQ, looking at areas such as the quality of the art itself as well as the quality of online presentation. 2014 I was juried in to the Institute of Equine Artists IEA which is a group of Equine Artists from many Countries. My work can be found on cross stitch patterns and specialty items. Licensing is available. Around the same time I discovered the evolving popularity of creating and selling Art Cards which are known as ACEOs (Art Card Editions and Originals). The only requirement in creating an ACEO is that they measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches which is the same size of a baseball trading card. More details and a few examples of these tiny treasures of mine can be found under my Art Cards (ACEOs) tab above. I prefer working with ink and gouache (opaque watercolor) on watercolor paper, but I also enjoy working with acrylic, graphite, colored pencils, and oil. Eventually, I plan to introduce pieces using pastel and new watercolor techniques. Photography has always been a hobby of mine and has been a wonderful way for me to collect reference photos for my paintings. With a love for nature and all its inhabitants, especially horses and cats, you will find most of my subject matter consists of animals in their natural or domestic environment. When possible, I try to include a narrative piece for my illustrations. My sense of humor exudes mainly in my illustrative works and my meticulous nature has been softened with my abstract and occasional watercolor experiments. When it comes to my realistic creations, I am drawn to mix in a hint of surrealism and twists of fantasy. I want my work to open your imagination and touch a wide range of feelings. When time permits, I work on a children's book that I am writing and illustrating, titled Tiny Adventure. It is about a pet hamster named Timber that escapes the the comforts of his own home to investigate the unknown world he can only see from the window. He discovers a world he never imagined, experiences new discoveries, witnesses the beauty of nature and what it has to offer as he makes new and unusual friends. A special thank you to Shawn Tucker of Three Feathers Native Curly Horses located in Kentucky. In the early months of 2012, Shawn granted me permission to use her amazing photos of a rare breed of American Curly Horses. They have been breeding and raising American Curly Horses since 2004. They keep things as natural as possible in their care and I found their hypo-allergenic coat qualities fascinating. These beauties have inspired a new direction with my Mustang Paintings.
